Classic style living room design

Everything changes in this world, time does not stand still. And for the design of interiors come up with a great many options. But the classics are unchanged. Classic style will always be the most popular and inimitable. Of course, each style is beautiful in its own way, but classic is always cosiness, sophistication and luxury. But not the luxury that catches your eye and looks pretentious, but light, unobtrusive and noble, emphasizing the status of the owners. Classic style is rigor in its chic manifestation. Fundamental are: regular geometric shapes, perfection of various patterns, only natural materials and colors. And for all this grandeur, the living room is the best suited. It is in the living room that most often there is enough space to accommodate all the necessary elements and decor, which is abundant here: paintings in wooden frames, large mirrors (also framed), fireplaces, and, of course, chandeliers.

All furniture is massive made of light or dark wood with gilding or carving. It differs in curved backs and wide armrests. Be sure to use upholstery made of natural fabrics, namely: velor, velvet, tapestry and other fabrics of natural origin, decorated with elegant patterns. Furniture made of fiberboard or MDF is not suitable for this style, it will look vulgar and vulgar. The design of the ceiling is always complex and beautiful, it can be modeling, friezes, painting. The windows must have curtains made of the same natural fabrics, decorated with tassels or fringe. If the room is quite spacious, then columns and half-columns can decorate it, which will create a truly magnificent atmosphere of the palace eras.

To create the magnificence of the classics, columns are the best suited. They will add to any room the nobility of a castle or palace

Note. I would like to immediately note that interior classics are a very generalized concept, so there is no clear guide to creating classic rooms. The fact is that the classics are a lot of historical styles: classicism during the reign of Catherine II, the Italian Renaissance, the Stalinist Empire, Baroque and Rococo and so on. But one thing is for sure: a classic living room is a wealth of decor, natural materials, symmetry and harmony. And nothing artificial.

No artificial elements, clear symmetry and harmony

But why, nevertheless, many love the classics so much, what are its advantages over other styles?

  1. the classics are unchanging, universal, always relevant and not subject to criticism;
  2. the classics are magnificent, which makes a strong impression on the guests;
  3. the classic emphasizes the wealth and good taste of the owners;
  4. classic in its modern form is very versatile: originality and comfort at the same time.

Requirements to be observed when creating a classic living room

So, the most important requirements, as mentioned above, are harmony, symmetry and only natural and high-quality materials. This applies to everything: finishing materials, furniture, color palette, decor and accessories. In addition to paintings and mirrors, figurines, stucco moldings, candlesticks, sculptures, vases, bas-reliefs, massive chandeliers of crystal or expensive glass often serve as decor. A chandelier with candles or their imitation looks very beautiful and in the spirit of classics.

  • It can be a forged chandelier with imitation of candles

    She will fill the room with the spirit of knights and kings.

  • Crystal chandeliers are inimitable

    It is always lightness, sophistication and sophistication.

When designing a classic living room, it is important to remember that this style, although rich in decor, does not like congestion. Too many parts, accessories will be inappropriate. For a change use decorative plaster or a list. And an old grand piano will be simply an inimitable attribute of this interior. Here everything should be solid and representative, any detail, even the smallest one, is carefully selected, because it is the little things that make up the big picture. For the interior to be quite strict but elegant, pay attention to porcelain products, as well as antique items. Many designers consider paintings with landscapes and portraits, as well as bronze and marble accessories to be an integral part of this style. The classic material for a classic living room is wood.

They can be finished and the ceiling, for example, the caissons can be fully or partially made of solid wood. This plays not only a decorative role, but also a constructive one. It also improves the acoustics of the room. Walls can be sheathed with wood paneling.

Walls

In addition to wood, walls can have other finishes. The first is fabric, wallpaper or decorative painting. It should look expensive and pompous. No cheap wallpapers or artificial fabrics. The main emphasis is on quality and texture, rather than bright color. Another option may be the design of the walls with monophonic expensive paints of pastel colors. Stucco molding and other volumetric elements are already used here.

Floor

Regarding flooring, it is best to avoid laminate flooring or a standard board. Only noble coatings. An excellent choice would be a mosaic parquet with abstract compositions of large sizes or floral patterns. All this should be covered with shiny varnish. And, of course, marble is considered the most appropriate floor covering in all its classical manifestations, namely: ornaments, patterns and natural shades of stone.

Ceiling

For classic interiors, especially the living room, the simple design of the ceiling is not suitable, there should be a masterpiece. And the most common way to achieve this is stucco. With its help, you can create inimitable paintings, the decoration of which can be both plain and gilded (bronze). Another way is painting. Here, all the rules of the classic interior are fully observed. Moreover, the sight is amazing. By the way, there is one important subtlety - the classical style involves high ceilings, so the right atmosphere is created, completely conducive to magnificent receptions. If the ceilings are low, then all the massive furniture will no longer seem sophisticated, but bulky. A stucco molding, columns, curtains with lambrequins will create a nagly feeling. But do not despair if the dimensions of your apartment do not meet classical standards.

Classic style in small rooms

In the case of small rooms, you will have to make all the attributes in a slightly reduced version: the furniture can also be made of valuable wood, but have a more modest size; curtains made of natural fabric, but slightly lighter than necessary. Even stucco molding can be present, it just needs to be made easier, although painting is better in this case. And what to do with columns if you still want to place them in such a room? For an organic look, in a low room, the columns should be placed along the walls, between them a wall shelf fits well.

Another way is the location of the columns in the opening, which separates the dining room or kitchen area from the living room. That is, it turns out that the columns will be the design of the entrance area into the living room. We have already said that this style is characterized by a voluminous chandelier. But in the case of a low living room, you can use the spotlights. It must be designed in the form of a circle, which is characteristic of the classics, and you can also cover it with a visor on top, which will create diffused light.

Fireplace

And, of course, the classic living room can not do without a fireplace, this is the top of luxury and grace, which permeates the whole atmosphere of this style. The best option would be a real fireplace, made of stone, brick or white marble. But if this is not possible, then do not shun imitation or modern bio-fireplaces in the classic portal.

Color scheme

Here, a calm palette is most often preferred, flashy shades are inappropriate. Mostly beige or cream shades are chosen. As well as other neutral warm colors: soft shades of brown, olive, sand and all shades of wood.

  • Beige tones will make the classic living room warm and cozy.

  • A pastel palette combined with white is a classic

    This creates an atmosphere of grandeur, sophistication and gentle hospitality

  • Beige and brown notes make the living room calm and relaxing.

  • Any selectable colors for the classic living room should be soft.

  • Sand and olive shades create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere.

12345White is also good, but subdued and diffuse lighting is created to soften it. If there is a desire to take brighter colors (red, blue, green), then it is worth stopping at their muffled and soft shades. There should not be anything catchy, juicy, otherwise it is no longer a classic. Indeed, with the help of color in the classic living room, the character of this style is conveyed, which consists in a feeling of wealth, grace and solemnity. That is why only soft and muted tones are chosen.

Another subtlety is the combination of pastel shades with gilding. This emphasizes the luxury and presentability of the room. As we have said, harmony is above all. Therefore, the color scheme of the walls should be in harmony with the decoration of the furniture, curtains, floor and ceiling. Everything should be sustained in the same style and present the big picture.

Harmony and grace are fundamental features of the classics. Everything must breathe it

Lighting

Lighting in such a living room should be multi-level: plentiful, soft and muffled. An intricate chandelier is invariably located in the center, and for the effect of several levels, floor lamps, wall sconces, table lamps and so on are added to the main chandelier. Some consider riding on extravaganza extra lighting paintings on the walls.

Modern classic

Nowadays it is not so simple to create an interior of a natural classic: too much modern equipment is adjacent to us. But this is a completely solvable task. And if in the kitchen - where there are too many household appliances - it will be difficult to disguise them, then in the living room this is much easier. A small plasma panel can be placed in a niche, and other newfangled devices (air conditioning, audio systems, etc.) can be "hidden" in cabinets, drawers, under paintings and furniture elements and so on. But in recent times, the classical style in its pure form is becoming less common, it gives way to eclecticism. Here there is a combination of natural classic elements and modern ones: expensive furniture made of natural wood, noble upholstery and so on and a computer table made of natural wood, a plasma panel on a mahogany stand and so on. A very sensitive issue in a classic living room of a modern type are windows and balcony doors. Reliable and relatively inexpensive look are plastic windows and doors, but their whiteness does not fit into the general atmosphere of the classics. And there are only two options: the first is wooden windows and doors that have reliability, tightness, high quality, good thermal insulation and environmental friendliness. But their only drawback is the high price, but with respect to the creation of classic interiors there is no place for savings, everything is saturated with luxury and high cost.

Although there is a second solution to this issue, which is slightly cheaper than the first, it is plastic windows and doors made under a tree. They are more expensive than ordinary plastic, but much cheaper than natural wood, and the quality is also at a high level. The most important task in creating the design of a classic living room is careful thoughtfulness. Every little thing, every accessory should be in its place. After all, one extra element and all the splendor of the classics will disappear. For all this, a truly delicate taste is needed to help you feel this fine line between nobility and pretentiousness. But the spent effort will not be wasted - the greatness of the classics is invariable.

The classic interior is an art that will never bother, never disappoint and will forever be loved by you and your loved ones
