The most popular, beautiful and fragrant species and varieties of climbing roses - description and photo
Climbing roses wrapping around the fence or wall of the house is the real pride of the gardener and lover of flowers. The many-sided rose rose has long been loved by many gardeners for its spectacular appearance and bright colors. But not everyone understands its types and varieties.
Climbing roses are divided into two main groups - Rambler (Rambler) and Climber, or Klimber (Climber). The plants of these groups are incredibly beautiful and each rose is distinguished by its originality and sophistication. This article discusses the most popular, beautiful and fragrant species and varieties of climbing roses, description and photo are given.
Classifications
Climbing roses - garden roses or types of wild rose, characterized by the presence of long, braided shoots. It is this characteristic that contributes to the widespread use of these plants in landscape design, for vertical gardening (arbors, arches, fences, walls of buildings).An official classification of climbing roses is only being formed. But in many sources it is mentioned that climbing roses are divided into two types:
- small-flowered (Ramblers);
- large-flowered roses (Kleimbers, Klimings).
A special group of Cordes hybrids (named after their creator, breeder V. Cordes). By the nature of growth, 3 groups of roses are distinguished:
- climbing (shoot length - 5 - 15 m);
- climbing (2 - 5 m);
- semi-braided (1.2 - 2 m).
Often the terms "Klimber", "Kliming" are used as synonyms. This is due to the fact that representatives of these groups are similar in large flower size, bush shape.
The difference is only in the history of occurrence: Climbers appeared as a result of crossing climbing roses with tea, hybrid tea, remontant roses, floribunda. And Kliminga is the result of a kidney mutation of large-flowered bush varieties, i.e. they arose spontaneously, and were later fixed by selection methods.
How to determine the type of plant by external signs?
When visually determining the type of climbing rose, you should pay attention to the main indicators:
- bush shape;
- shoot length;
- flower size, the formation of inflorescences;
- flowering characteristic;
- the number of leaves on the petiole;
- the aroma.
What depends on the species?
Landing
Small-flowered roses root perfectly in the shade, but large-flowered roses like well-lit areas.
Pruning
There are differences in pruning issues.:
- Ramblers are cut immediately after flowering (shoots older than two years old are cut, and young ones are shortened to the first bud in order to stimulate shoot formation).
- The Kleimbers retain all shoots aged 1 to 4 years, and during the summer, all faded inflorescences are removed, which stimulates the laying of new buds.

Support
The first ones are unrestrained in growth, therefore they require solid supports, under which it is better to pour a concrete foundation. The latter do not require such thoroughness.
We offer you to watch a video about possible options for installing support for climbing roses:
Wintering
The frost resistance of climbing roses also depends on the species.. The roses of the Rambler group are the easiest to survive the winter, although they require certain actions from the grower (removal from the support, shelter for the winter). Scourge of Roses
It’s very difficult for Kleimbers to bend to the ground for warming, which is why difficulties arise with these plants: they mainly suffer not from freezing, but from mechanical damage.Main types and varieties - names, description and photo
